How To Get White Teeth In Minutes!!
Hi, I’m Trish!
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 12 years now!
I absolutely LOVE all things teeth & health!
I’m so EXCITED you are here with me!
Some of these are FREE and you can start right now!
Now let’s get going on finding out how to get these juicy secrets, to get your beautiful pearly whites!
I have attached a link, next to all the juicy secrets, if you need a brand I trust, to give you a pretty good start to keeping those chompers white! 😉
Secret #1: Visit a Good Dentist & Dental Hygienist
We don’t all have a Dental background, but we do need to know what’s going on inside our mouth before we start whitening our teeth.
Choosing the right Dentist’s office and Dental Hygienist is a VERY critical decision. Trust me, not all are created equal.
I like to call myself a perfectionist, when it comes to my work ethic 🙂 (AKA-Experience) o:)
However, there are plenty of individuals, who let’s just say… leave things behind. I hate to start this by pointing fingers, but I love being blunt and truthful!
I have found there are many reasons behind this, including, not enough time with patients, patients who are sensitive, management/poor protocol for the office, and in general lack of knowledge and understanding. This list could go on and on, trust me 🙂
If you don’t get a good Dental cleaning or haven’t been in a while. I 100% guarantee you have stain or tarter in between your teeth (tight contacts/stain trap), and that will not go away with whitening.
It’s important to know, that crowns, implants, bridges, fillings, bonding, veneers, and dentin (the second layer of our tooth), do not whiten. This also goes if you have gum recession, and or grind your teeth, which would expose the second layer of your tooth as well.
If you are going to do a DIY whitening and not go to the Dentist-I would sit down and google all these things I mentioned and give yourself an examination 😉 (But I would not recommend it).
Secret #2: Brush & Floss on a Regular Basis
Brushing and flossing are SUPER important to our oral health. If you don’t brush and floss on a regular basis, plaque and stain will build up on your teeth.
And over time this will harden/calcify with our saliva, making it impossible to come off without a dental cleaning. Brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush has been proven to work 5 times better than brushing with a manual toothbrush.
Having the proper angle with your toothbrush, and floss is also super important in plaque/stain removal. Always hug each side of each tooth when you floss once a day, and use an electric toothbrush for a total of two minutes, two times a day (at a 90-degree angle against the gum line).
Tip-If you tend to get a lot of stains, for example, if you are a big coffee drinker. I would recommend increasing to brushing to three times a day (with an electric-this is a must) and floss twice a day, preferably with a more abrasive, but safe! toothpaste, like…
Secret #3: Food & Drinks
Anything that can stain a white t-shirt, can stain your teeth. For example, red sauce, tea, coffee, red wine, cranberry juice, blueberries, and raspberries, this list could go on forever.
Using a straw when drinking these bright-colored drinks, can actually make a huge difference in how much contact the liquid touches your teeth.
Brushing and flossing right away after eating or drinking bright-colored foods, can also help decrease these stains.
Other foods/drinks, you might not think of, are dark Sauces/dressing, think soy sauce, or balsamic dressing.
Also, sugary sports drinks and acidic drinks like soda can wear down the enamel over time, and which can make your dentin expose its yellow color.
Swish with water
Secret #4: Medication
Tetracycline is an antibiotic that causes a gray/brown internal stain on your teeth. This can happen from Utero (mom ingests) to 8 years of age (while the teeth are still developing).
Certain antibacterial mouthwashes can also stain your teeth, for example, chlorhexidine or cetylpyridinium chloride. Some blood pressure medications like antihistamines, aka Benedryl and antipsychotic drugs, can stain our teeth. Iron and excess fluoride can again, stain our teeth black/brown.
Secret #5: Makeup
Don’t you just love the power of makeup? 😉 Here are some makeup tricks/tips that will help your smile brighten, as well as make you look pretty!
Choose a lipstick with blue or pink undertones, such as rosy pink, berry, cherry/red, plum/wine, and bright/red. Don’t forget to plump those lips with a lip plumping gloss. And while you at it, brush those lips to plump them up even more! 😉
Get your tan on with your bronzer girl! Just make sure your toner is not on the orange side, think taupe-toned.
It’s all about the eyes! Make your eyes pop, and I guarantee your teeth will not be the first to be looked at. Bang that mascara on or put on some falsies! Also, Use cool tones-shades like turquoise, green, purple, blue, and silver for eyeshadows.
Secret #6: At Home OR In-Office Whitening
At-home whitening is amazing for upkeep and touch-ups to keep your teeth white! And even faster, is in-office whitening!
Here’s a link to a post about in-office whitening if you are interested.
At-home whitening can work really well! You can either sit at a dental office and get it done in one hour. Or you can slowly,/at your own pace, whiten at home
Secret #7: Age/Genetics
As we get older our teeth get old with us! Your teeth can get worn out due to time, which basically means you may see some discolaration, due to dentin exposure which is yellow/orangey color.
Some people are seriously just born with perfect teeth, aka thick enamel. And some of us have the complete opposite. Making it harder to whiten, and you are not able to whiten as often.
People with thinner teeth have less surface to whiten. Your teeth can actually turn gray/blue, see-through if you whiten too much.
Trauma to the teeth when your under 8 can also cause a permanent stain inside the tooth, this is when your tooth dies. Internal whitenig can be done by your endodontist, to fix this issue or you can get a crown placed on your front tooth.
Our fillings also age with us, like old silver fillings, which eventually, start to leak internally into the tooth, giving the tooth a gray/black shadow discoloration.
